Welcome to the website of Muziekcentrum Zuid Oost (MZO)
MZO believes that music is for everyone. No matter your level of skill, age or background. So MZO is also for adults. The aim of our teaching programs and music teachers is to let young and old discover their love and talent for music and let these grow. We encourage you to give your voice or instrument wings.
Music lessons at MZO
The music teachers are not employed by us, but instead are independent entrepreneurs who rent space at our main location. If you or your child want to take music lessons you can contact a teacher directly via our website and make an appointment with them. The teacher is responsible for their own financial and pupil administration. This is not our concern. We do however select the teachers who want to commit themselves to us, in order to ensure the quality of the music lessons.
Music lessons in school
With about 60 or so projects we provide general music lessons in primary schools. We initiate activities for the Brede School and support Het Leerorkest; children from groups 5 to 8 get weekly musical lessons during school hours and play in their own symphony orchestra. Het Leerorkest, which was founded in 2005 has by now become a phenomena. There are (mid 2014) 30 Leerorkesten in 19 primary schools, where about 2700 pupils receive weekly music lessons. At the top of these orchestras there are highly motivated and talented children who after school hours can develop their skills further with our help. MZO founder and director Marco de Souza was for his initiative for founding Het Leerkorkest awarded the title of ‘Amsterdammer of the year 2013’.
